Code of Conduct
Coach Code
Champlin Park Youth Hockey Association takes pride in our coaches. As the highest representative of the association at any game and/or team function, it is important that our coaches set an example for the team and the community.
I have read and understand the portions of the Champlin Park Youth Hockey Association
- Player-Centric Approach: Winning is a consideration, but not the only one, nor the most important one. Prioritize the well-being of the player over winning the game. Remember, players are involved in hockey for fun and enjoyment.
- Role Modeling: Be a positive role model to your players. Display emotional maturity and be alert to the physical safety of the players. I will not be under the influence of alcohol, smoke, chew tobacco, vape or use marijuana or any other illegal substance while performing my responsibilities as a coach.
- Communication: Be generous with your praise when it is deserved. Be consistent, honest, fair, and just. Do not criticize players publicly. Strive to be a more effective communicator and coach. Refrain from yelling or swearing at players.
- Team Representation: I will conduct myself in a respectful and befitting manner at all facilities and on social media when representing CPYHA (ice rink, hotel, restaurant, etc.) during any team function, including on-ice practice and play and with opposing teams/families.
- Officiating Disputes: Will be handled in a calm nature by the Head Coach only, following guidelines per USAH Handbook. Any formal grievances can be submitted to D10 by the Head Coach post incident.
- Player Development: Adjust to the personal needs and problems of players. Be a good listener. Never verbally or physically abuse a player or official. Provide all players with the opportunity to improve their skills, gain confidence, and develop self-esteem.
- Practice Organization: Proactively organize practices that are fun and challenging for your players. Familiarize yourself with the rules, techniques, and strategies of hockey. Encourage your players to be team players.
- Safety: I will ensure all coaches and players maintain proper equipment requirements while on the ice following USAH, MNH, D10 and CPYHA regulations.
- Parental Communication: Maintain an open line of communication with your players’ parents/guardians. Clearly explain the goals and objectives of CPYHA and your coach expectations for the season.
- Player Well-being: Be concerned with the overall development of your players. Stress good health habits and clean living.
- Internal Issue Resolution: Address player issues internally prior to involving parents/guardians.
- Certification: All coaches will be USA Hockey certified, background checked, and Safe Sport certified and must be listed on the official USAH Team Roster; including student coaches.
- Feedback Sessions: Coaches will meet regularly with players to give and receive feedback and as requested by parents/players.
- Player Privacy: Coaches will only provide specific player information to that player and their immediate family.
- Love of the Game: To play the game is great - to love the game is greater.
I will respect and adhere to all rules and Code of Conduct of Champlin Park Youth Hockey Association, District 10, Minnesota Hockey, and USA Hockey.
This code of conduct serves as a guideline for coaches to ensure a positive and safe environment for all players. I understand that violating this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including loss of coaching privileges by Champlin Park Youth Hockey Association, which will be dealt with on an individual basis.
